Kosti, March 09 (Darfur24)

Three people were injured early Monday in a drone strike believed to have been carried out by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeting areas in Kosti city in White Nile State, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.

Iman Ahmed Hassan, an eyewitness, told Darfur24 that a drone flew over the city and fired more than six missiles toward the Umm Dubeikrat Al-Qouz dormitory of Imam Al-Mahdi University, as well as the nearby Student Activity Administration building in the Abu Sharif area.

She said the attack injured three students affiliated with the Ministry of Interior and one worker, who were transferred to Kosti Teaching Hospital for treatment.

A student residing in the dormitory, Amjad Abdullah, said the strike caused panic among the students and led to the destruction of large parts of the building.

He explained that the dormitory houses more than 300 students from the faculties of medicine and engineering at Nyala University, who are temporarily staying there after the university relocated part of its operations to White Nile State.

Other witnesses said the bombardment also targeted the army headquarters and Block 38 in Kosti, with plumes of smoke seen rising from the area.

A resident said the attack sparked widespread panic among residents after more than eight missiles fell while air defense systems attempted to intercept the drones.

Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in conflict between the Sudanese army and its allies and the Rapid Support Forces, with drones increasingly used in attacks on both civilian and military locations across the country.
