Al-Daein, March 02 (Darfur24)
The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have released several officials in East Darfur whom they had arrested a day earlier on allegations of corruption, following the intervention of the head of the state’s civil administration, sources said.
RSF forces in the state had detained a number of officials from government institutions on Sunday over alleged financial irregularities.
Sources told Darfur24 that the head of the civil administration, Mohamed Idris Khater, objected to the arrests, saying they were carried out without consulting him. They said he went in person to the RSF headquarters in Al-Daein on Monday and demanded the officials’ immediate release, prompting the forces to free them.
According to the sources, those arrested included the director of the executive department at the Ministry of Finance, the director of the executive department at the Ministry of Planning, the director of the tax office, the director of the markets, crops and livestock department at the Ministry of Finance, the director of the water authority, and two officials from the Zakat office.
The officials were reportedly held at the RSF sector headquarters in Al-Daein based on reports from the Economic Security body alleging financial irregularities in revenue-generating institutions.
Sources said the arrests were conducted without notifying the head of the civil administration, who serves as the highest executive authority in the state.
The Rapid Support Forces have controlled East Darfur since November 2023, when they established a civilian administration to oversee public institutions and basic services.
