Um Dafuq, February 18 (Darfur24)

Sudanese families in the border town of Umm Dafuq, South Darfur State, said seven Sudanese were killed and three others injured in armed robberies that occurred inside the territory of the Central African Republic on Monday.

Survivor and trader Hamdan Mahdi told Darfur24 that gunmen attacked their group while they were traveling to the town of Mamoun, about 20 kilometers inside Central African territory, resulting in the deaths of four Sudanese and injuries to three others.

He said the wounded were evacuated to a hospital inside Central African territory, while the attackers looted all their money and belongings.

In a separate incident on Saturday, two Sudanese were killed and three others injured during a gunpoint robbery while returning from the town of Bambari to Um Dafuq.

Witnesses from the victims’ families told Darfur24 that the assailants seized an estimated five million riyals, along with 40 sacks of coffee and 15 jerrycans of honey. The injured were transported by motorcycle to Bambari for treatment.

Families of the victims accused members of the Wagner Group, which operates alongside the Central African government, of involvement in repeated deadly incidents along the border strip between Sudan and the Central African Republic, alleging that local tribes had been trained to assist in maintaining security.
