Kadugli, February 06 (Darfur24)
The death toll from recent attacks on Kadugli, the capital of South Kordofan State, has risen to more than 37 people, including military personnel, with dozens more seriously injured, according to local and medical sources.
The city came under intense drone strikes on Wednesday and Thursday, in what sources described as one of the most violent waves of attacks in recent months. The strikes are believed to have been carried out by the Rapid Support Forces and allied elements of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North.
The bombardment brought public life to a standstill from Thursday morning, forcing markets and government institutions to close. Medical sources told Darfur24 that casualties were reported in the Hajar al-Nar, Kalba, and market neighborhoods. They added that several bodies remain unidentified, while dozens of injured civilians are receiving treatment at Kadugli hospital under difficult conditions.
Sources also said Starlink satellite internet service has been largely unavailable since February 3, following the entry of army forces from Dilling into the city. Authorities are reportedly permitting access for only brief periods each morning and evening.
On February 3, Sovereignty Council Chairman and Sudanese Armed Forces Commander-in-Chief Lt. Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan announced the lifting of the siege on Kadugli after army units advanced from Dilling following fighting in Heiban. Drone strikes have continued since then, resulting in additional casualties.
