Dilling, January 20 (Darfur24)
Military intelligence in the city of Dilling, South Kordofan State, has intensified security measures in recent days, amid growing complaints of widespread restrictions targeting civilians and civil society institutions.
Local sources told Darfur24 that military intelligence has imposed what they described as an “undeclared siege” on the city by tightening security controls, restricting the movement of activists and humanitarian organizations, and carrying out arrest campaigns targeting volunteers involved in community and humanitarian work.
The sources stated that the arrests have included activists and civil society volunteers, without providing clear reasons. This has created a climate of fear and anxiety among residents, prompting many to limit their daily movements and avoid public activities for fear of questioning or detention.
They added that continued security harassment, including repeated summonses, interrogations, and threats to halt activities, has forced several civil society organizations to completely suspend operations, despite the population’s heavy reliance on them for humanitarian assistance and basic services.
The sources noted that the crackdown comes amid a worsening humanitarian situation in Dilling, where residents face severe shortages in health services and basic commodities.
It is also reported that two university professors died earlier this year while in military intelligence custody, following prolonged detention without access to necessary medical care.
