Nyala, January 16 (Darfur24)
Residents and local sources reported on Thursday that the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) released several detainees in Tulus locality, South Darfur, following mediation by tribal leaders.
The RSF had arrested more than 20 individuals in early January, including former officials from Omar al-Bashir’s regime and ex-military personnel. They were detained at the headquarters of the General Intelligence Service in Tulus.
Residents told Darfur24 that the detainees were released after intervention by the Nazir of the Fulani tribe, Muhammad al-Fatih. Multiple sources said the RSF required those released to take an oath pledging not to cooperate with or provide information to the Sudanese army.
Eyewitnesses reported that two RSF combat vehicles arrived in Tulus from Nyala and arrested around 20 people, including primary school teacher Omar Yahya Abu Bakr and a young man, Muhammad al-Fatih Othman, after their names appeared on a written list of suspects.
The arrests were part of a wider campaign launched by the RSF in Tulus following a drone attack that targeted the convoy of the head of the state’s civil administration in Kutum locality.
