El Fasher, November 11 (Darfur24)

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) reported on Monday that thousands of residents are continuing to flee the city of El Fasher in North Darfur, despite widespread insecurity along the routes out of the town.

Residents say armed groups allied with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have been abducting some of those fleeing and demanding ransom payments from their families. In several cases, families reported that communication was cut off after the ransom was transferred, leaving the fate of their relatives unknown.

According to an IOM statement obtained by Darfur24, field tracking teams estimated that between November 5 and 8, 2025, approximately 7,075 additional people were displaced from El Fasher due to heightened insecurity.

The displaced have moved to several localities across North Darfur, including Tawila, El Fasher, Mellit, and Sarf Omra. The organization added that the total number of people displaced from El Fasher since October 26 has reached 88,892.

The IOM warned that the high level of insecurity along the roads may further restrict civilian movement, noting that the situation remains extremely tense with continuous displacement.

On October 26, the Rapid Support Forces seized the headquarters of the 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher, the last major army stronghold in the Darfur region.
