El Fasher, October 20 (Darfur24)
A massive fire broke out on Saturday in the market of Jazo, a town located about 20 kilometers east of Al-Maliha in North Darfur State, causing extensive material losses, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.
Al-Samani Ibrahim, a resident of the town, told Darfur24 that the fire, whose cause remains unknown, spread rapidly and destroyed large parts of the market, damaging merchandise, shops, and grain mills.
He appealed to national and international organizations to urgently intervene, provide shelter for affected residents, and rehabilitate the market, which serves thousands of displaced people, including those from Al-Maliha and Al-Fasher.
A trader said losses were severe but have not yet been fully assessed. He noted that the market is one of the most important in the region, receiving goods from Al-Daba in Northern State for distribution to villages and neighboring areas in Al-Maliha locality.
Jazo is located in the eastern Al-Maliha locality, extending toward the desert bordering Northern State and the Al-Zarq and Ambaro areas in northwest North Darfur.
