Nyala, September 24 (Darfur24)

The government secretariat headquarters in Nyala, South Darfur, has been partially evacuated and closed following a series of drone attacks in recent days.

According to eyewitnesses and local sources, drone strikes earlier this month targeted the northern section of the building, which serves as the headquarters of the Rapid Support Forces’ civilian administration. The attacks killed several civilians, including two children.

Following the strikes, civil administration officials were instructed to relocate meetings to alternative government sites. A secretariat employee, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Darfur24 that working hours have been reduced, with staff reporting in the morning but leaving before midday. The building has also been cleared of restaurants and cafés.

Eyewitnesses confirmed that the western gates of the secretariat have remained closed since the attacks, noting the absence of federal police guards and the presence of a single combat vehicle inside the compound.

Three separate sources told Darfur24 that the Prime Minister and the Governor of Darfur had been holding meetings at the headquarters just hours before the drone strike. On the same day, several executive directors were sworn into office at the secretariat.

Earlier this year, the civil administration reopened the state government secretariat, located in Nyala’s Grand Market near the former army headquarters, after it had been closed for two years due to fighting in the city.
