Jebel Marra, January 22 (Darfur24)
Residents of the Beli Srif area in eastern Jebel Marra reported this week that the only local health center has ceased operations due to a lack of funding, leaving thousands without access to basic medical services.
Ahmed Zein, a volunteer from the area, told Darfur24 that the health center stopped operating at the beginning of the new year after a supporting organization halted its financial assistance. He said the closure has forced patients to travel long distances to reach medical care in other areas, amid difficult humanitarian conditions and a severe shortage of services.
In a related development, residents also complained of acute drinking water shortages in Beli Srif, attributing the problem to broken water pumps and storage tanks that have not received necessary maintenance.
Local sources reported that the area has recently received more than 3,000 displaced people from El Fasher and its surrounding localities. The displaced families are living in harsh conditions with limited access to essential services.
Residents have noted that some organizations have begun providing shelter assistance, but food rations remain insufficient and fail to meet the needs of affected families.
