El Fasher, August 31(Darfur 24)
The International Organization for Migration IOM, said on Sunday that a thousand families had fled the city of El Fasher in North Darfur State.
In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the organization stated that “field assessment teams from the Displacement Tracking Matrix estimated that approximately 1,050 families were displaced from El Fasher on August 29, due to increased insecurity.”
The organization noted that the Al Wadi, Awlad Al Reef, and Makarka neighborhoods were affected by the ongoing clashes in the city, with families displaced to other locations within El Fasher locality in North Darfur state.
The city of El Fasher has been witnessing ongoing attacks and clashes for the third consecutive week between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, with the latter continuing to shell residential neighborhoods and markets.
The shelling and clashes have killed and wounded dozens and forced hundreds of families to flee their homes in search of safety.
El Fasher is suffering from a severe humanitarian crisis resulting from severe shortages of medicine and food, in light of the siege imposed by the Rapid Support Forces on the city since April 2024.
