Delling, August 6(Darfur 24)
The Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces( RSF)on the city of Deling in South Kordofan State at dawn on Wednesday.
Clashes erupted on the northern outskirts of the city, with no civilian casualties reported, according to local sources.
Citizen Tayeb Kafi told Darfur 24 that the attack began at around 5:00 a.m. when RSF advanced from the north toward the city and reached the vicinity of the transport corps near the Bala neighborhood, north of Delling.
Kafy indicated that SAF were on alert and were able to repel the attack after a heavy exchange of fire and the use of heavy artillery by both sides.
He added that RSF fired approximately 11 artillery shells, indicating that all of the shells fired failed to explode due to the ground being waterlogged following recent rains.
He explained that some shells landed near Deling University, the Aqoz neighborhood, and some of the city’s main roads.
According to several eyewitnesses in the city, the attack caused panic among the residents, especially with the sound of the shells. However, their failure to explode mitigated the losses.
It is worth noting that the city of Deling represents a stark example of the suffering of thousands of families. Today, the Sudanese people face the specter of starvation and slow death as a result of the harms imposed on them by the Rapid Support Forces on the one hand and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North on the other. This is amidst governmental neglect, economic decline, and the absence of fair distribution of resources. This comes at a time when calls are increasing for aid to save the city’s residents and save them from an uncertain fate.
The city is crowded with displaced people from Habila locality and the villages of Takma and Al-Buk, who have taken shelter in schools.
