Khartoum, June 27(Darfur 24)
More than 550 students from the Darfur region are preparing to take the postponed 2024 Sudanese secondary school exams, scheduled to begin next Saturday in River Nile and White Nile states.
Ahmed Ishaq Hamid Ibrahim, head of the media committee for the secondary school certificate in the region, confirmed to Darfur 24 that preparations have been completed to receive students arriving from North, South, West, East, and Central Darfur states. The students were distributed across six examination centers: four in Atbara, River Nile State, and two in Kosti, White Nile State.
Ishaq explained that the total number of examinees reached 551 students, including 284 female students and 267 male students. South Darfur led the way with 341 students, followed by Central Darfur with 148, while East Darfur recorded the lowest number, with only ten students participating.
He indicated that 413 students are currently in River Nile State, while White Nile State is hosting 138 male and female students from South Darfur. He noted that the numbers will continue to be updated as more students arrive at the accommodation.
Regarding the challenges, Ishaq revealed the difficulties faced by administrative missions in White Nile State, which led to the relocation of two Central Darfur examination centers from Darfur to the River Nile. He also spoke about the armed robbery of 22 female students during their journey from Darfur, where their money and phones were stolen in the Umm Qirfa area of North Kordofan before they continued on their way to the examination centers.
Ishaq praised the role of the Ministry of Education in River Nile State and its efforts in providing a suitable environment for students, by issuing seating numbers and providing housing and meals, under the direct supervision of the Governor of South Darfur, Bashir Marsal.
