Port Sudan, June 24(Darfur24)

The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), led by the current minister of Finance Jibril Ibrahim, announced on Tuesday its commitment to its executive positions in the Sudanese government, which it obtained under the Juba Peace Agreement.

JEM spokesman Mohamed Zakaria Farajallah said in a brief press statement received by Doroob: “In response to what some media outlets have reported regarding the position of the Juba peace parties, we affirm that our commitment to the Juba Peace Agreement for Sudan is a complete adherence to its principles and entitlements, including the executive positions approved pursuant to it.”

The peace agreement signed in the South Sudanese capital, Juba, in October 2020 granted the leaders of the armed movements a 25% share of the executive government, in addition to representation in the Sovereignty Council, quotas in state governments, and the position of governor of the Darfur region.

Sources told Darfur 24 that there is widespread disagreement among the Juba Peace Partners regarding Prime Minister Kamil Idris’s vision for participation in the next government.

The sources indicated that Kamil Idris who was appointed Sudan’s prime minister by Burhan a few weeks ago held a meeting with the Juba Peace Partners, during which he presented his vision for participation in the next government. This vision includes submitting the names and CVs of candidates for ministerial positions, without specifying the positions.

It was also reported that some parties to the Juba Agreement are demanding that they continue to hold the ministerial portfolios and sovereign positions they obtained under the agreement.

The Ministries of Finance and Minerals are the most prominent portfolios that the movements are demanding to continue holding.
