On Friday, the Sudanese army forces(SA repelled a large-scale attack launched by the Rapid Support Forces( RSF) on the headquarters of the 22nd Division in Babanusa, following fierce fighting that resulted in casualties on both sides and the destruction of military vehicles.
Military sources told Darfur 24 that the Rapid Support Forces launched an attack from several directions against army positions and allied groups in the 89th Infantry Brigade and the 22nd Division in Babanusa.
The sources indicated that the Rapid Support Forces penetrated the 89th Infantry Brigade headquarters and seized control after fierce clashes with the Sudanese army.
The sources stated that the Rapid Support Forces advanced toward the 22nd Infantry Division headquarters, but army forces repelled them using heavy artillery and sniper fire. They noted that army personnel were positioned in fortified trenches.
The sources added that the Rapid Support Forces retreated from the areas they reached on Friday after suffering losses among their forces as a result of the fierce resistance they encountered, which resulted in the destruction of a number of their combat vehicles.”
On the other hand, a member of the Rapid Support Forces told Darfur 24 that they encountered “very strong” resistance from army forces in the 22nd Infantry Division in Babanusa.
He stated that they managed to penetrate the division’s headquarters but were forced to retreat under pressure from army artillery fire. He noted the presence of mines in the trenches dug around the division.
Members of the Rapid Support Forces published a video showing their attempt to breach the army’s defenses. A landmine exploded during the filming, causing severe injuries among them.
