A high-level delegation from UN agencies failed to obtain approval from Sudanese authorities in Port Sudan to allow them to visit Darfur region to assess the situation on the ground.
Last February, Sudanese authorities renewed the opening of the Adré crossing, linking West Darfur State and Chad, to allow aid flows to continue for another three months.
Sources told Darfur 24 that a delegation from UN agencies arrived in the Chadian city of Adré last Thursday, but the Sudanese authorities in Port Sudan refused to grant them entry permits.
They indicated that the delegation has been waiting since Thursday at the Adré border crossing for approval from the Sudanese authorities, who have not responded to their request.
The sources stated that the UN delegation aims to visit several areas in Darfur to assess the overall humanitarian situation and identify urgent needs.
