The General Court in Damazin, Blue Nile State, has sentenced Awad Omar Faisal Abbas to death by hanging after convicting him under Articles 50 and 51 of the Crimes Against the State Act on charges of collaborating with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
The Joint Security Cell in Blue Nile said Tuesday that the verdict was issued after legal procedures ended and the competent court considered the case.
The cell said Abbas’s case was among those opened against people suspected of ties to the RSF or of providing the group with information. It said authorities were continuing to pursue related cases in coordination with judicial and legal authorities.
The verdict comes amid intensified security operations in Damazin. In June, the joint security cell announced the arrest of 120 people suspected of collaborating with the RSF. Local sources reported continued arrests in markets and residential areas, including searches of civilians’ phones.
In August, the cell also announced the detention of more than 20 civilians and three foreigners during a security operation in Damazin. Human rights groups have accused the authorities of targeting civilians and activists, while the Justice Committee has documented alleged cases of arbitrary detention and enforced disappearance.
The latest death sentence comes as fighting escalates in parts of Blue Nile, particularly around Qaysan, prompting authorities to tighten security in army-controlled areas amid concerns over RSF-linked activity.
