The Sudanese army on Friday repelled an attack by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) in the Tabsa area of rural Al-Abbasiya Taqali, South Kordofan State, local sources told Darfur24.
The fighting marked a resumption of ground clashes in the area after months of relative calm.
Sources in Al-Abbasiya said fighting broke out on Friday morning between the Sudanese army on one side and RSF and SPLM-N forces on the other in the Tabsa area.
The attacking forces advanced from the east and south of the area, the sources said, adding that both sides suffered casualties, although no figures were immediately available.
The SPLM-N said in a statement published on its official website that its forces had launched an attack on Tabsa and inflicted heavy losses on the Sudanese army.
The movement said its forces would continue military operations until achieving what it described as the establishment of a “New Sudan.”
In a separate statement, the SPLM-N said its forces, alongside the RSF, had taken control of the Jabal al-Damra area on Thursday and inflicted heavy losses on the Sudanese army.
Darfur24 could not independently verify the claims regarding casualties or control of the areas.
