Nyala, March 22(Darfur 24)

Identical sources and eyewitnesses reported on Saturday that the Sudanese army began regrouping its forces, which had previously withdrawn from areas of South Darfur State, in locations near the border with South Sudan.

Elements of the army, the General Intelligence Service, and the police withdrew from positions in Buram, Gereida, Maraya, Hafr al-Nahas, Sango, and Kafia Kingi, after the Rapid Support Forces (RS) took control of South Darfur, to the areas of Bor, Raja, and Tamsaha in South Sudan.

Reliable sources and eyewitnesses told Darfur 24 that the Sudanese army began two months ago to regroup these withdrawing forces in locations within the borders of South Sudan, in the areas of Bor al-Mahta and Bor al-Madani, which are located near the border with Sudan.

They noted that Buram and the al-Firqa area witnessed intensive overflights by army warplanes last week.

They reported that warplanes conducted reconnaissance over Buram ,villages and towns in South Darfur bordering South Sudan over five consecutive days.

A military source confirmed to Darfur 24 that some of the forces that had withdrawn to Bor, Tamsaha, and Raja were regrouped in the border areas, while the rest were transferred to Port Sudan and the city of Kosti in White Nile State.

He said that the forces transferred to Port Sudan and Kosti joined the Sayyad movement, which had been stationed in the Wad Ashana area before moving on to reclaim vital areas in North Kordofan and lift the siege on its capital, El Obeid.

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have controlled South Darfur since October 2023, sent military reinforcements in early January to the areas of Sabula, southeast of Singu, and Umm Hajara in the al-Radom locality, to secure the gold mines and position themselves along the border.
