Nyala, March 16(Darfur 24)

Aldaman Hotel, used by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF )for civilian purposes in Nyala, the capital of South Darfur State, was hit with guided missiles on Saturday.

On Thursday and Saturday, Nyala witnessed explosions of unknown origin targeting the Aldaman Hotel and other premises in the east of the city used by the Rapid Support Forces.

Eyewitnesses from the airport neighborhood north of Nyala told Darfur 24 that they heard three blasts with columns of smoke rising from Altadamon Hotel, with the rest of the missiles directed toward Nyala International Airport.

They said RSF are using the hotel, located between the headquarters of the General Intelligence Service and the State Legislative Council, as premises for their legal advisors and for conducting civilian activities.

Darfur 24 was unable to confirm whether there were any casualties.

The explosions that occurred in Nyala on Thursday and Saturday remain shrouded in mystery, with neither the RSF nor its civilian administration in South Darfur commenting on them.

An eyewitness, a passenger van driver, told Darfur 24 that he heard a blast in the direction of Nyala International Airport at midnight on Thursday as he was entering Nyala from the Balil locality.

Other witnesses said that Thursday’s explosion was the result of a drone being shot down while attempting to target Nyala Airport, which led to a fire in the area surrounding the airport.

Other witnesses indicated that the explosions were the result of the RSF testing new weapons. They also confirmed that one civilian was slightly injured in Thursday’s explosion.

The command of the 6th Infantry Division in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, said that warplanes launched airstrikes on strategic RSF positions in Nyala.
