January 16, 2025 Juba: Darfur24 The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of South Sudan summoned the Sudanese Ambassador, Essam Mohamed Hassan Karar, today, Wednesday, and informed him of its protest against the violations that affected some of its citizens in Al-Jazeera State by the Sudanese army forces.
The violations that followed the entry of the Sudanese army into the city of Wad Madani, affected some South Sudanese citizens, according to what was shown in video clips circulating on social media.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of South Sudan said in a statement that it summoned the Sudanese ambassador to express its deep concern over the recent incidents that followed the recapture of Wad Madani by the Sudanese Armed Forces.
It added that it received a comprehensive report from its embassy in Port Sudan detailing the unfortunate incidents that led to the loss of lives among its innocent citizens, who maintain non-combatant status and hold foreign citizenship.”
The statement continued, “John Samuel Hugo, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, expressed his deep concern over these painful developments, and urged the Government of Sudan to take immediate and effective measures to protect the rights and dignity of all foreign nationals, especially South Sudanese nationals, who are currently affected by the ongoing crisis in Wad Medani and other parts of Sudan.”
Juba called on Sudan to ensure an immediate cessation of acts that endanger lives, and to provide unrestricted access to consular services to its citizens.
It also called for a comprehensive investigation into the reported incidents, holding the perpetrators accountable, and informing it of the results of the investigation and the measures taken in this regard.
