September 9, Al Daein — The first shipment of the World Food Programme (WFP) humanitarian aid coming from Port Sudan arrived in Abu Karinka locality in East Darfur State. It is the first delivery of its kind since the war broke out last April.
Mayor Abdul Rahman Juma said that the shipment contains food allocated to South Sudanese refugees. He also said there are 15 other trucks on their way to the area.
Over the last month, relief has begun to flow into Darfur through the Adre crossing between Sudan and Chad, after the authorities agreed to open it for three months on August 15.
With increasing international pressure, the two warring parties in Sudan also agreed to resume emergency aid deliveries through the Dabbah crossing from Port Sudan to the famine-stricken areas of Darfur.
