El Fasher, July 29(Darfur 24)

A number of traders in El Fasher have accused Sudanese army personnel of involvement in the robbery of their shops in the livestock market in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur State.

Trader Adam Musa Abkar told Darfur 24 that shops in the livestock market are currently witnessing widespread thefts by army personnel during daylight hours, amidst the silence of local authorities in El Fasher.

Another trader in the livestock market, who preferred to remain anonymous for security reasons, told Darfur 24 that looted goods and citizens’ property are being sold in neighborhoods and in the Naivasha market in front of SAF commanders.

He called on the police and local authorities in El Fasher to intervene to protect the remaining shops in the livestock market.

For his part, an activist in El Fasher confirmed to Darfur 24 that all the thefts of shops and houses in El Fasher’s residential neighborhoods are carried out by the SAF , its allied joint forces, and popular mobilization forces.

He pointed out that there are markets dedicated to selling looted goods in Naivasha Market and the First Class neighborhood, displayed by army and joint forces personnel, right in front of the owners.

Soldiers from military units fighting alongside the 6th Infantry Division had previously told Darfur 24 that the living conditions had forced soldiers to rob the homes of citizens fleeing the ravages of war.
