Four people have died from measles at the Atash displacement camp north of Nyala in South Darfur State, amid a growing outbreak in the camp, according to a camp official.
The official told Darfur24 that about 100 measles cases were recorded in Atash during August and September, with four deaths, including two members of the same family and two elderly people.
The outbreak comes as Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that seven health centers it supports in South Darfur recorded more than 12,000 measles cases between November 2025 and July 2026.
Displaced people in Atash and Al-Salam camps also reported a widespread malaria outbreak, saying some medicines are unavailable and treatment costs are beyond the means of many families. They also said people with chronic illnesses are struggling to access specialist care.
Local reports say the two camps host more than 160,000 displaced people.
Displaced residents said the closure of several health centers in camps across South Darfur because of funding constraints has further limited access to healthcare.
The worsening health situation comes amid prolonged displacement and limited humanitarian assistance across the state.
