About 3,650 people have been displaced from Umm Badr in Sudan’s North Kordofan State amid deteriorating security and a military buildup by the Rapid Support Forces, according to local sources and the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
IOM’s Displacement Tracking Matrix reported that the displacement occurred between September 20 and 22, with those fleeing Umm Badr heading to Sheikan locality in North Kordofan and Omdurman locality in Khartoum State.
Local sources told Darfur24 that displacement has also been reported from Hamra al-Sheikh and surrounding areas in northern North Kordofan, with some residents heading toward El Obeid and the Northern State.
The displacement comes amid an escalation in military operations in North Kordofan. The Sudanese army launched an operation in the state on Thursday, while videos circulating online purportedly show army forces taking control of the Tana area near Mazroub and Sodari.
