Nearly 2,000 people have been displaced from villages in North Darfur State amid worsening insecurity, with some fleeing across the border into Chad, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM).
In a statement on Monday, IOM said about 1,000 people fled the villages of Korbia, Ghorbura and Wadi Arkori in Umm Buru locality on September 17, with most of the affected families crossing into Chad.
The agency also reported that an additional 930 people were displaced between September 16 and 18 from Halil Umm Ghadir and Tura villages in El-Fasher locality.
Those families fled to Tawila locality in North Darfur, according to IOM.
Tawila, which is controlled by the Sudan Liberation Movement led by Abdul Wahid Mohamed Nour, has continued to receive newly displaced people amid ongoing insecurity in parts of North Darfur.
