Nearly 69,000 displaced people are currently sheltering in Abu Jubaiha, South Kordofan, and areas of Qaysan locality in Blue Nile State amid escalating fighting and insecurity, according to displacement tracking data.
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said Abu Jubaiha is hosting about 57,880 displaced people across 62 sites, making it the second-largest displacement hub in South Kordofan after Kadugli.
Humanitarian teams are focusing on urgent needs in three camps in Abu Jubaiha, including water, sanitation and healthcare services, as needs continue to grow.
Meanwhile, displacement tracking teams reported that about 11,000 people, or 2,200 families, fled several villages in Qaysan locality between August 28 and 30 because of worsening insecurity.
The displaced came from Amardilo, Abu Shneina, City 11 and Rabia and sought refuge in other areas within Qaysan, according to the tracking teams.
The latest displacement follows earlier waves of flight from Qaysan and surrounding villages as fighting intensified between the Sudanese army and forces of the Founding Alliance, including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).
The RSF announced on August 28 that its forces had captured the Sarkam and Bakuri military bases, as fighting continued across the locality.
In South Kordofan, recent violence also displaced about 730 people from five villages in Al-Abbasiya locality. Families fled Umm Luta, Daqaq Fur, Zarami, Al-Lubana and Al-Saisban to other areas within the locality and to Umm Ruwaba in North Kordofan.
The expanding fighting across South Kordofan and Blue Nile has triggered repeated waves of displacement, while humanitarian organizations face growing challenges in providing basic services to affected communities.
