Fuel stations across several localities in River Nile State suspended gasoline sales on Saturday, citing a lack of supplies, according to vehicle owners.
Truck and passenger vehicle owners told Darfur24 that stations in Abu Hamad, Al-Ubaydiyah, Berber and Atbara had stopped selling gasoline, raising concerns about a new fuel shortage.
Some vehicle owners alleged that the suspension could be intended to create scarcity ahead of another fuel price increase.
In mid-August, the River Nile State’s Economic Affairs Department announced a reduction of 750 Sudanese pounds in the price of a litre of gasoline, with prices varying between areas depending on transportation costs. At some stations, a litre of gasoline was selling for 8,600 Sudanese pounds.
Meanwhile, vehicle owners in Khartoum State reported a fuel shortage over the past week, with long queues returning at gasoline and diesel stations.
