The Sudanese Teachers Committee has accused education authorities in Jabal Awliya locality and several other localities in Khartoum State of continuing to impose what it described as excessive fees on pupils and students under the guise of “unified examination” charges.
In a statement issued on Friday, the committee said the continued collection of the fees without decisive intervention places executive directors of the localities, the Khartoum State Ministry of Education and the state governor under scrutiny. It argued that the failure to investigate how the collected funds are managed reflects weak accountability and poor protection of public resources.
The committee called on the Anti-Corruption Commission to launch an immediate investigation into what it described as a “fully fledged corruption case.” It also urged authorities to end practices that, in its view, turn education into a means of extortion and to uphold the principle of free and compulsory education.
