Al-Kuma, July 15 (Darfur24)
At least four civilians were killed and several others injured on Wednesday in a suspected Sudanese army drone strike on the town of Sari in Al-Kuma locality, about 100 kilometres northeast of El Fasher in North Darfur State, according to three local sources.
A resident told Darfur24 that the drone circled over the town before firing more than seven missiles at residential areas.
He said the strikes hit homes indiscriminately, killing and injuring civilians and sending residents fleeing to nearby forests and valleys.
The source said the attack also killed livestock and damaged homes, adding that assessments of the destruction were still underway.
Another resident said the strikes also hit the local market, killing at least four civilians and wounding several others, who were transferred to El Fasher for treatment.
Since the outbreak of war in April 2023, drones have been used increasingly by the warring parties to target military positions as well as civilian infrastructure across several Sudanese states.
In May, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said drone strikes killed at least 880 civilians between January and April this year, accounting for more than 80% of all conflict-related civilian deaths during that period.
