Zalingei, July 15 (Darfur24)

Civil mediation efforts in Zalingei, the capital of Central Darfur State, have led to a peace agreement between two tribal groups after deadly clashes in Al-Murain market earlier this week.

A local leader told Darfur24 that the mediation, led by the native administration in coordination with the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), ended with both sides signing an agreement to end hostilities.

The agreement includes the payment of blood money, medical treatment for the injured and financial compensation for victims.

The source said tensions escalated on Monday after both groups mobilized fighters, with one side blocking several roads in Zalingei, raising fears of wider violence.

He said the RSF’s second-in-command in the area intervened to contain the situation, while local leaders mediated between the two groups to prevent further escalation.

The clashes erupted on Sunday in Al-Murain market between tribal groups allied with the RSF before spreading to Al-Hamidiya camp for displaced people. At least two people were killed and five others injured, according to eyewitnesses and local sources.

Residents say Zalingei has witnessed a rise in armed violence and robberies despite an ongoing curfew.

The city has been under RSF control since 2023 after limited fighting with the Sudanese army.
