El Obeid, June 12 (Darfur24)
At least 19 civilians were killed and more than 10 others injured in drone strikes that targeted residential neighborhoods and a cemetery in El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan State, between Wednesday evening and Thursday morning, according to local sources.
Sources in El Obeid told Darfur24 that the drones were believed to belong to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), although no official statement had been issued by the group at the time of publication.
According to the sources, the strikes hit several neighborhoods in the eastern part of the city, killing and injuring civilians.
The sources said four people were killed and 12 others wounded early Thursday while attending the burial of victims who had been killed in the earlier attacks.
Those injured were transferred to medical facilities for treatment, the sources added, noting that the strikes triggered widespread panic among residents and heightened fears over the continued targeting of civilian areas.
In a separate incident, two civilians were killed when a drone struck a vehicle in the village of Al-Awamra near Um Ruwaba, according to residents.
El Obeid has experienced repeated drone attacks in recent weeks, resulting in civilian casualties and growing insecurity. Residents say the strikes have intensified fears among the population as the conflict continues to affect urban areas across the region.
