October 10, Khartoum — The Rapid Support Forces evacuated residents of the besieged Tuti Island in central Khartoum to the Al-Daim area for charge of 300,000 Sudanese pounds per person (nearly USD $500), sources told Darfur24.
Since the Sudanese Army began a ground operation in Khartoum on September 26, the residents of Tuti have been trapped by the ongoing clashes. The island’s residents have repeatedly appealed to humanitarian organizations to intervene to save them and open safe routes for evacuation or aid delivery.
“The situation has become unbearable,” one resident told Darfur24. “Even if the Rapid Support Forces agreed to allow the citizens to leave, the majority of them do not have the money to evacuate.”
