Authorities in Sarf Umra locality, North Darfur State, imposed an indefinite curfew on Wednesday after a fatal shooting sparked tribal tensions and armed clashes in the town.
Sources told Darfur24 that gunmen opened fire on a man in Sarf Umra, inflicting critical injuries. The victim later died after being taken to the hospital.
According to the sources, relatives of the deceased gathered following the incident and attacked a residential neighborhood inhabited by members of the tribe to which the suspected perpetrators are believed to belong, triggering armed confrontations between the two sides.
The clashes left several people injured, including a local administration leader, the sources said.
In response, the head of the Civil Administration, Nazir Abdul Rahman Hamid Mohamed Madri, issued a decision ordering the closure of all commercial shops and government institutions and imposing a curfew across the town until further notice.
The decision permits movement only by authorized security forces tasked with maintaining order and containing the unrest.
The Civil Administration called on the relevant authorities to facilitate the movement of urgent medical and humanitarian cases and ensure the continued operation of Sarf Umra Hospital, health centers, and pharmacies, stressing that these services are vital to the safety and well-being of residents.
It also reaffirmed its commitment to coordinating with security and government authorities to contain the situation and restore stability in the locality.
