Kauda, May 06 (Darfur24)

Violent clashes broke out Tuesday between factions of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) near Kauda in South Kordofan, leaving an unspecified number of dead and injured, according to eyewitnesses.

Residents told Darfur24 that the fighting began around 7:00 a.m. in the village of Siliri, about five kilometers east of Kauda, before spreading to the Durdur area southwest of the city. No confirmed casualty figures were immediately available.

The clashes are the latest in a series of recurring internal confrontations in regions controlled by the SPLM.

On May 3, armed forces from within the movement attacked the village of Karandi near Kauda, resulting in deaths and injuries, as well as the destruction of a church and the burning of homes.

In March, more than 20 people were killed in similar clashes between SPLA forces and a local group in the Dabi area, reportedly triggered by a dispute over border demarcation.

The continuation of internal fighting within SPLM-controlled areas, despite its alliance with the Rapid Support Forces, raises growing concerns about fragmentation within the movement and the potential for further instability in South Kordofan.
