Nyala, December 2 (Darfur24)

Residents of the Atash Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, north of Nyala in South Darfur State, reported on Monday that a man died by suicide last Friday.

They told Darfur24 that the man had left his home and did not return. After two days of searching, he was found dead under a tree north of the camp. Residents said no evidence suggested the involvement of other individuals at the scene.

According to camp residents, the deceased worked in the camp market and lived in Center “4”. They added that he had recently developed a mental illness.

Displaced people who spoke to Darfur24 said this is the first incident of its kind inside the camp.

Atash camp, located between neighborhoods 17 and 18 north of Nyala, has recently experienced rising insecurity, including an increase in murder and looting incidents among displaced residents.
