Shangil Tobaya, April 08 (Darfur24)

Health officials in Shangil Tobaya town in North Darfur State have raised alarm over a fast-spreading measles outbreak that has killed six children and infected dozens more in recent days.

In a statement seen by Darfur24, the Emergency Room’s Statistics and Information Center said at least 58 cases have been recorded, warning that the disease is spreading rapidly based on field surveys and rising hospital admissions.

Local responders warned that the situation has reached an early warning stage, raising fears of further fatalities if urgent measures are not taken.

The Shangil Tobaya Emergency Room called on humanitarian organizations, health authorities, and donors to intervene immediately by providing medicines, medical supplies, and logistical support. It also urged support for health workers and efforts to contain the outbreak before it worsens.

Officials stressed that swift and coordinated action is needed to break the chain of infection and protect vulnerable populations, particularly children.

The outbreak in Shangil Tobaya comes amid a wider spread of measles across Darfur and Kordofan, with recent cases reported in Labado in East Darfur and Kalimando in North Darfur.
