Bilel, March 27 (Darfur24)
Farmers in Bilel locality, South Darfur, have reported escalating attacks by camel herders on farmlands, causing significant crop losses and threatening agricultural livelihoods.
Residents of Hajir Tunju and Dawani areas said repeated encroachments have affected large areas of farmland during the current winter season in a region known for year-round irrigated agriculture.
Ahmed Suleiman, a farmer, said the continued incursions have led to substantial losses despite repeated complaints to authorities.
He said farmers have filed legal reports and held meetings with local administrations and the Sudanese Federal Police, but enforcement has been weak. According to him, some suspects have not been apprehended due to alleged links to the Rapid Support Forces.
Suleiman added that farmers are considering raising the issue with Chief Abdul Rahman Abuh in an effort to find solutions and protect their land.
Bilel locality, about 12 kilometers east of Nyala, has long witnessed tensions between farmers and herders, despite recurring mediation efforts and local conferences aimed at easing the conflict.
