Blue Nile, March 24 (Darfur24)
The Sudan Founding Alliance, also known as TASIS, announced on Tuesday that its forces had taken control of the strategic city of Kurmuk and its surrounding areas in the Blue Nile region, following intense clashes with the Sudanese army and allied groups.
In a statement, the alliance, comprising the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North, said it had secured Kurmuk, as well as the areas of Al-Baraka and Al-Kili, after fighting began on Monday.
Videos circulated by RSF forces showed fighters inside Kurmuk and displaying military vehicles they said were seized from the army. The Sudanese army has not commented on the claims.
The alliance reported heavy losses among army forces, including deaths, injuries, and captured personnel, as well as the seizure and destruction of multiple military vehicles and equipment.
It added that its forces have begun deploying positions around the captured areas to consolidate control, while indicating that operations are ongoing on other fronts.
The developments come amid intensifying fighting in the Blue Nile region, with both sides in Sudan’s conflict continuing to trade claims over territorial control.
