Lagawa, March 23 (Darfur24)

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Monday accused the Sudanese army of attacking the city of Lagawa in West Kordofan State, which left at least 17 people dead and 25 others injured.

In a statement obtained by Darfur24, the RSF said the attack targeted residential neighborhoods, describing it as part of a “series of deliberate crimes against innocent civilians,” with preliminary figures indicating more than 17 deaths and 25 injuries.

RSF condemned the incident as a “barbaric aggression,” alleging that it reflects a broader pattern of drone strikes targeting hospitals, markets, and residential areas across Kordofan and Darfur.

The statement said such attacks constitute a serious violation of international humanitarian law and the rules governing armed conflict, holding the Sudanese army responsible and calling for the prosecution of those involved.

It also urged the launch of an independent international investigation to hold perpetrators accountable.

West Kordofan State is currently under the control of the RSF.

The conflict in Sudan, ongoing since April 2023, has seen a sharp escalation in the use of drones by both the Sudanese army and the RSF, which are increasingly used in attacks and surveillance operations. These strikes have targeted both military positions and civilian facilities, contributing to rising casualties and worsening humanitarian conditions.
