Kabkabiya, March 05 (Darfur24)

Dozens of civilians were killed and others injured on Wednesday after a drone strike hit the weekly market in Al-Hara town, about 30 kilometers north of Kabkabiya in North Darfur state.

According to eyewitnesses and medical sources, the drone belonged to the Sudanese army.

A medical source at Kabkabiya Rural Hospital told Darfur24 that at least 23 wounded people were brought to the facility, while others were rushed to nearby health centers and have yet to be fully counted.

The source said several of the injured were in critical condition, adding that some victims died before reaching medical facilities.

A Darfur24 correspondent reported that the drone directly targeted the crowded market, resulting in heavy civilian casualties. The strike caused extensive destruction, with shops completely burned and several bodies left unidentifiable due to the intensity of the explosion and fire.

Residents rushed to the scene searching for relatives, encountering widespread devastation and burned goods throughout the market area.

Since April 2023, Sudan has experienced intense fighting between the Sudanese army and allied groups on one side and the Rapid Support Forces on the other, with drones increasingly used in attacks affecting both civilian and military locations.
