Um Dafuq, January 30 (Darfur24)
Citizens in Um Dafuq locality, South Darfur State, are facing worsening health conditions due to a severe shortage of medical services and life-saving medicines at the area’s only rural hospital, with patients suffering.
A medical source at the hospital told Darfur24 that the facility has not received any drug supplies for several months, noting that the last shipment arrived in September. He said the shortage has left patients without essential medications and placed enormous pressure on the limited medical staff.
The source added that the hospital is also grappling with a critical lack of medical equipment and devices, including laboratory and operating room facilities, making it extremely difficult for staff to diagnose and treat patients effectively.
Relatedly, a member of the medical staff, who requested anonymity, said a delegation from the state presidency recently visited the hospital, was briefed on the deteriorating health situation, and pledged to resolve the drug shortage crisis. However, he noted that these promises have yet to be implemented.
Um Dafuq locality, which lies along the border with the Central African Republic, has long suffered from weak health services due to its distance from the state capital, Nyala. The situation has further deteriorated amid ongoing fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which has disrupted supply routes and severely limited residents’ access to basic healthcare.
