Kordofan, January 23 (Darfur24)

The Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM) field teams reported that approximately 2,415 people were displaced from several villages in the Um Dam Haj Ahmed area of North Kordofan State on January 21, 2026, due to escalating insecurity.

In its latest report, DTM said the affected villages include Al-Khashm, Al-Zariqa Al-Qizan, Umm Jarban, Al-Farjab Al-Mahila, Al-Farjab Al-Sabi, Umm Shaghal, and Al-Farjab Al-Markha.

According to monitoring teams, displaced families have moved to multiple locations within North Kordofan, including Umm Sadd Haj Ahmed, Umm Rawaba, and the Sheikhan area, while other groups have headed toward Omdurman in Khartoum State.

North Kordofan has witnessed a steady deterioration in security and humanitarian conditions since the outbreak of war in April 2023, marked by escalating violence, restrictions on movement, and the collapse of basic services. These conditions have forced thousands of families to flee repeatedly in search of safety and livelihoods.

The Um Dam Haj Ahmed area has been particularly affected in recent months by lawlessness, limited access to healthcare and food, and growing vulnerability among women, children, and the elderly.

With continued fighting in several states, North and West Kordofan have become key transit and reception areas for displaced people arriving from Darfur and Khartoum, placing additional strain on host communities and already fragile infrastructure.

DTM warned that the security situation in the region remains tense and unstable, raising fears of further displacement if conditions continue to deteriorate. The tracking teams said they will continue monitoring population movements and provide regular updates across Sudan.
