Um Dafuq – Darfur24

At least nine Sudanese were killed and five others injured in an attack by Russian forces on a gold mining site in the Central African Republic (CAR), amid a series of reported assaults by Russian “Wagner” patrols targeting Sudanese civilians in the border region.

Mohammed Youssef, a relative of the victims, told Darfur24 that a Russian patrol attacked a group of Sudanese youths who had traveled to gold mines in the Al-Sousal area last Sunday. He said the assault resulted in the deaths of nine miners and injuries to five others.

In a related incident, families from the border town of Um Dafuq in South Darfur reported that Russian forces tortured two of their relatives on Monday as they were returning from the “San Kilo” mine in the Andha area.

A family member told Darfur24 that the two victims, from the town of Aburi, were subjected to severe torture, during which their fingers were cut off. The injured men were later evacuated to a hospital in Birao, the capital of CAR’s Vakaga prefecture.

These incidents come amid growing reports of repeated violations committed by Russian forces against Sudanese civilians in border areas with the Central African Republic.

Last Friday, Russian forces reportedly crossed into Sudanese territory for the first time, expelling Rapid Support Forces police officers and administrative staff from the Karkar area along the shared border between Sudan and the Central African Republic.
