Al-Tina, January 05 (Darfur24)

The administration of Dar Qala, one of the clans of the Zaghawa tribe in the town of Karnoi, announced the appointment of Ahmed Adam Sabi Al-Tijani Al-Tayeb as head of the native administration of Dar Qala in the Chadian border town of Al-Tina, following confirmation of the death of his father, Al-Shartai Adam Sabi, who was kidnapped last August.

Speaking during his inauguration ceremony, Ahmed said he would work to unite the various community components and strengthen the local administration of Dar Qala.

On Friday, the Dar Qala administration held a funeral procession in Al-Tina for the late Shartai Adam Sabi Al-Tijani Al-Tayeb, the traditional leader of Dar Qala, after he was killed following more than four months in captivity at the hands of unknown gunmen.

According to local sources, Shartai Adam Sabi was abducted last August by an armed tribal group traveling in two vehicles. He was accused of providing coordinates to a drone that later targeted a community meeting in Al-Tina. The meeting had been convened to discuss solutions to armed robbery incidents that claimed the lives of several members of the Zaghawa tribe in Sudan and Chad in 2021.

In a brief statement issued on Saturday, the Dar Qala administration mourned the killing of Shartai Sabi, describing it as “treacherous,” and confirmed that his body was handed over after sustained pressure and mediation efforts.

Video footage showed dozens of people accompanying the body, while Mayor Adam Marmar Attia, the representative of the mayors in Dar Qala, officially announced the death ahead of the funeral ceremony.

The abduction of Shartai Adam Sabi had sparked armed clashes between Zaghawa clans last October, resulting in the deaths of 19 people, including local leaders and one of his sons. Five others were injured, and eight people remain missing, according to local sources.
