A United Nations and humanitarian delegation led by UN Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan Denise Brown visited several shelters for displaced people in Wad Al-Mahi locality in the Blue Nile region on Thursday to assess their conditions and urgent needs.
The delegation visited Shelter Centre No. 6 in the locality, the Al-Kadalo displacement centre and a proposed site for a new shelter to accommodate displaced people amid growing humanitarian needs in the region.
Brown expressed regret over the attack on the Abu Shandi shelter, stressing the need to protect civilians, displacement shelters and humanitarian workers.
Wad Al-Mahi Governor Mahjoub Al-Sheikh Al-Khalifa called for expedited preparations at the proposed site and the provision of tents, clean water, healthcare and environmental sanitation services for displaced people.
Separately, the Sudanese Red Crescent Society announced the death of its volunteer, Badr al-Din Omar Musa, following a drone attack on Omdurman Hospital in the Blue Nile region, according to the society’s branch in the region.
The governor of Wad Al-Mahi accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying out the attack but provided no further details about the circumstances of the incident or the extent of the damage to the hospital.
