Yassin, December 30 (Darfur24)
Residents of Yassin locality in East Darfur State are facing an acute drinking water crisis due to the disruption of water stations, poor maintenance, and the high cost of spare parts.
Volunteers from the area told Darfur24 that several neighborhoods have begun to experience severe water shortages following the shutdown of many water pumping stations, as routine maintenance has become unavailable due to the shutdown.
The volunteers warned that the situation is likely to deteriorate further with the approach of the summer season, calling on the state’s civil administration, humanitarian organizations, relevant authorities, and community benefactors to intervene urgently to address the crisis.
Workers at local water stations noted that most localities across East Darfur State are struggling to maintain operations due to shortages of essential supplies, rising prices of spare parts and lubricants, and the inability of the local water authority to meet operating costs.
They added that the ongoing war between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces has compounded the crisis, disrupting supply chains and weakening basic service provision across the state.
