Kabkabiya, December 20 (Darfur24)

Six people were killed, and seven others injured in tribal clashes between the Bani Hiliya and Misseriya tribes in the town of Barda, near Jebel Marra in North Darfur, on Monday, local sources in Kabkabiya said.

A medical source in Kabkabiya told Darfur24 that the seven injured were transferred to Al-Shati Health Clinic in the city, adding that three of them were in critical condition.

A local leader in North Darfur, who requested anonymity, said the violence began with a heated argument between two individuals at a social gathering, during which one person shot and killed the other. A relative of the deceased then shot the attacker, killing him.

He said elders from both tribes later met in an attempt to contain the situation, but the meeting escalated into an exchange of gunfire, resulting in four additional deaths and injuries to seven others, who were transferred to Kabkabiya for treatment.

An informed source in Kabkabiya said community leaders moved to the scene to prevent the violence from spreading after both sides mobilized in the area, noting that the Rapid Support Forces, despite being stationed nearby, did not intervene.
