Riyadh, December 15 (Darfur24)
The Chairman of Sudan’s Sovereignty Council and Commander-in-Chief of the Sudanese Armed Forces, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, paid an official visit to Saudi Arabia on Monday at the invitation of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received Al-Burhan at Al-Yamamah Palace, where the two leaders discussed the latest developments in Sudan and their regional implications, as well as ongoing efforts to restore security and stability in the country.
The meeting comes amid renewed international attention to ending the war in Sudan. On November 19, U.S. President Donald Trump said he would begin working to help end the conflict after a request from the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
Saudi Arabia and the United States have previously mediated talks between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces, which resulted in the signing of the Jeddah Declaration on May 11, 2023. The agreement focused on principles of engagement and the protection of civilians, but the mediation process was later suspended after both sides failed to comply with its provisions.
