Al-Junaynah, December 8 (Darfur24)

The civil administration in Lagawa locality, West Kordofan State, has imposed a night curfew from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. in response to a worsening security situation.

The decision comes after repeated complaints from residents and traders over rising incidents of looting, assaults, and break-ins targeting shops and commercial areas.

The order, signed by the locality’s executive director and head of the security committee, Al-Hadi Adam Al-Tahir, introduces a set of additional directives aimed at curbing armed activity within city limits.

Key provisions include a ban on carrying weapons inside markets and residential neighborhoods for both civilians and military personnel. The decision further mandates the removal of all military outposts and headquarters from residential and commercial zones, except those operating under official assignments.

Measures to combat smuggling and drug trafficking have also been strengthened, including the confiscation of contraband and the imposition of penalties ranging from imprisonment to fines. The sale of weapons and ammunition in local markets is strictly prohibited, with authorities warning of severe repercussions for violators. The order also cautions against any attempts to incite tensions among local communities, promising firm action against offenders.

According to the administration, the Federal Police will take the lead in enforcing the new directives and overseeing all procedures related to maintaining public safety. The regulations also introduce new controls on public gatherings, and prohibit the wearing of military uniforms in markets except by authorized forces on official duty.
